April 2 - 24, 2004

We are very pleased to present Shannon Craig's energetic landscape paintings in her first solo show with the gallery.  Aspects of the built environment appear in her works although not specifically Toronto where she is based and studied.

Landscapes and their weather systems are Shannon's boldly painted subject matter.  Her careful observation of the movement of the winds and how they have affected the land are evidenced in the rapidly painted oils. In this body of work she has worked from her sketches and photographs done during her trip to Newfoundland as well as Georgian Bay and eastern Ontario.

Her sense of the strength and solidity of the earth is important in to these works.  The Canadian landscape tradition is strong and Shannon's contribution to it is powerfully fresh in the considered directness of her brush strokes.
