Harlan House (Canada, 1943) graduated from the Alberta College of Art in 1969. Since that time, he has worked as a potter maintaining a successful studio practice in the village of Lonsdale, Ontario. Best known for pristine celadon glazed porcelain ceramics inspired by Asian sources and techniques, and the world around him. House continues to evolve as an artist through experimentation with form and surface, all the while focusing on the function of his vessels. The artist received the Prix Saidye Bronfman Award for Excellence in the Crafts in 1989 and the Jean A. Chalmers National Crafts Award in 1997, as well as being elected into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1995. His works are held in numerous private and public collections, most notably The George. R. Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, Toronto; Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute, China; Montréal Museum of Fine Art, Montréal; Museum of Civilization, Gatineau (Chalmers Collection, Massey Collection); Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto; Royal Scottish Museum, Britain; and the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg.
