Rainbow Lakes Extended
March 4 - 27, 2004 |
BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
We are very pleased to show part of Kai Chan's Rainbow Lakes exhibition that toured Canada 2001 - 2003, it was co-curated by Robin Metcalfe and Stuart Reid and jointly produced by the Art Gallery of Mississauga, Museum London, and The Tom Thomson Memorial Art Gallery. As Rainbow Lakes was never shown in Toronto many of Kai's patrons and friends have not had the opportunity to experience this body of work until now.
Kai approaches each exhibition as if it was his last. Rainbow Lakes Extended exemplifies that approach to art making. Two series are included in this show, one is comprised of works made of tooth picks and thread which were used to create drawing like images of garments; the others are also wall dependent, and made from a myriad of humble elements. Kai's poetic pieces are enigmatic and elegant, allowing the viewer many ways to relate to them.
